Benefits of Massage
The definition of ‘Massage’ is : the manipulation of soft tissues to produce therapeutic effects.
Swedish Massage is a combination of different movements which form the basis for all massage work as well as other therapies ( e.g. reflexology/physiotherapy/etc). It can be used lightly (superficially) which produces an overall effect of relaxation, or it can be used to affect deeper tissues which is necessary for aches/pains and tight muscles, etc.
There are so many benefits to Massage Therapy! Touch plays a major role in life and is essential for maintaining our wellbeing and a balanced and healthy sense of self.
Massage Therapy has been proven to reduce anxiety and ease stress, which in turn encourages relaxation. Cells demand less oxygen and breathing can become balanced.
Massage Therapy stretches muscles and connective tissues. It improves circulation, blood flow and the flow of the lymphatic system – which aids detoxification.
Massage Therapy boosts the formation of T-cells which are crucial to an effective immune system.
It encourages ‘muscle wake up’, bringing new awareness to muscles that have been ‘cut off’ by chronic tensions. This also helps ‘prepare’ muscles in rehabilitation.
Massage Therapy can help with a wide variety of conditions such as Multiple Sclerosis and Arthritis as well as post operative tensions and pain. It increases the body’s production of endorphins which reduce pain.
If a muscle remains contracted or in spasm over a period of time, connective tissues may ‘knit’ together to form a new and incorrect shape. Massage helps by loosening muscles and joints by breaking up adhesions which slow or hinder movement. This assists muscles to return to their ‘normal’ shape and should improve function.
Massage not only benefits our Body but it also affects our Mind and Spirit. It’s calming, soothing effects, reduce stress and balance your overall ‘chi’ and wellbeing.
Basically, I simply cannot recommend Massage enough! It is something which everyone can benefit from and should receive regularly. So, even if you have never tried it before, I hope I have provided enough information to encourage you to make yourself an appointment today! Don’t leave that ‘sore shoulders’ or ‘aching back’ another day, give me a call or email if you would like to make an appointment or to discuss further.
